The Ladin Carnival has got a long tradition in the Val di Fassa ad it is one of the most suggestive events in the course of the year. Above all it is celebrated at Penia near Canazei, which is considered to be the origin of this special carnival. In this period Penia is also venue for traditional burlesque and mocking plays, the so-called “Maschéredes”. The origins of these plays date back to ancient Ladin times. Moreover there is also a very special carnival procession at Campitello, the most important participats of which are the “bufons”, the “marascons” and the “laché”. At this carnival procession you can also admire traditional wooden masks sculptured by locals. This carnival is really worth seeing!
