Lake Lavarone

Lake Lavarone (Lago di Lavarone) is located at 1,079 metres a.s.l., covers an area of 64,000 m² and is up to 17 metres deep. Nestled in the splendid natural surroundings of the Lavarone Plateau, it is a designated bathing lake and a popular destination for sports enthusiasts and those seeking peace and quiet. Two bathing establishments invite you to relax on the shores of the lake and swim a few laps: Deck chairs and parasols are available for rent as well as rowing boats and pedalos.

In the surroundings of Lake Lavarone, active holidaymakers can also find MTB trails, climbing routes and beautiful hiking paths that run around the lake and through the Trentino countryside. In winter, however, it turns into an ice rink. Winter hiking trails pass by in the immediate vicinity. During the Belle Époque, at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, the lake was particularly frequented by the Viennese aristocracy. The mild climate and nature attracted visitors such as Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis. He spent part of his holidays here, resting, studying and relaxing on walks.

A local legend tells that in the past there was a dense forest on the spot where the water basin is located today. It was owned by two brothers. One day they fought violently about this forest and God, angered by their violent outburst, scuttled the forest in the water of the lake. In 2021 Lake Lavarone was awarded the Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag), an award for excellent water quality, environmental awareness and sustainable services.

Also in 2023, Lake Lavarone has been awarded the prestigious Bandiera Blu eco-label, which is given for excellent water quality, environmental protection and sustainable services.
