Piccole Dolomiti

The little sisters of the world-famous Dolomites

The “Piccole Dolomiti” (little Dolomites) are a mountain range in the south east of the Trentino. It is the lowest mountain chain of the province. However, as the “Piccole Dolomiti” are much lower than the world-famous Dolomites, this mountain range is called “little” Dolomites.

During WWI this mountain range represented the frontline between Austria and Italy. In this period of time the Italian army established numerous paths, which were amplified and are used as hiking paths today. Hiking possibilities are vast and the area is easily accessible. Different strongholds and wall walks, remainings of WWI, line some hiking paths.

The Piccole Dolomiti mountain range can be divided into three subgroups. The Catena delle Tre Croci includes mountains from Sella del Campetto and Passo delle Tre Croci. The Gruppo del Carega comprises the area from Passo delle Croci to Passo Campolongo, the highest elevation of which is 2,259 m a.s.l. The third subgroup is the Sergio Alto and includes the area between Pian delle Fugazze and Alpe di Campogrosso.

Highest peak: Cima Carega (2,259 m a.s.l.)
Major peaks: Cima della Neve (2,157 m a.s.l.), Cima Posta (2,215 m a.s.l.), Cima del Cherlòng (2,210 m a.s.l.), Passo di Campogrosso (1,460 m a.s.l.)
