Hike from Mount Penegal to Bait del Prinz

Enjoy the wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The sun is shining and the weather forecasts are good, so everything is perfect for a hike today. We drive to the Penegal mountain and we park our car in front of the Hotel Serafino. We hike up to the panoramic tower near the hotel and here we are astonished by the idyllic view of the landscape with the lake Caldaro, the lakes of Monticolo, Bolzano, Laives and the Bassa Atesina Region until Salorno.

From here we follow the path no.500 towards the Bait del Prinz on a side road first and then on a narrow path through a thick wood. After a steep slope we reach a glade with colourful flowers, butterflies and buzzing bees everywhere.

Walking along the path no. 500 we can enjoy the quietness of woods and meadows and the breathtaking views of the valley of Bolzano and Appiano. After almost one hour walking, we reach a crossroads with many signposts (lake Tret, Macaion mountain…) and we follow the directions to the “Bait del Prinz” hut where we arrive after 30 minutes walking. This huge glade is the perfect place for our picnic with speck ham, cheese, bread and fruit and to have a rest laying on the grass or reading a book. At about 15.00 we decide to return, following the same path which takes us back to our starting point.

Suitable for families? Yes, this hike is recommendable for families with children, by the way the children should be used to walk, as the trail is quite long with many climbs and slopes. At the Bait del Prinz the children can play and run on a wide lawn and in the wood. The path is not suitable for prams.
