Adamello - Presanella

A mighty mountain chain located between the gruppo Ortles and lake Garda

On the southern border of the Eastern Alps, there is the Adamello-Presanella mountain chain. The Presanella group is located in the north of the Adamello group.
This moutain range begins in the north of passo Tonale. In the east it is bounded by the Sarca river and the Gruppo Brenta. In the west the Val Camonica is the natural border of the Adamello-Presanella.

Particularly the Adamello group is glaciated - the area covered by glaciers is about 42 sqkm. Only the Mandrone glacier covers an area of about 18 sqkm. Not only this glacier is important for the glacial research. The Gruppo Presanella is less glaciated and pefect for different alpine tours. Some high alpine routes as well as the “peace path”, which reminds of the Dolomite frontline in WWI, traverse this moutain chain.
