The Ortles - the highest elevation of the mountain range

The Ortles-Cevedale mountain range is an alpenstock of the Rhaetian Alps in the Central Alps, situated between the provinces of Lombardy, Trentino and South Tyrol. The entire mountain range is situated in the Stelvio national park. It is about 50 km long and 40 km wide. The Ortles-Cevedale mountain range comprises about 100 glaciers.

In the north east the Gruppo Ortles-Cevedale is bounded by the Val Venosta (South Tyrol). In the west, however, the Valtellina represents the natural border. In the south the mountain range borders on the Valle Camonica and Val di Sole.

However, the Ortles is the highest and most majestic peak of the Ortes-Cevedale group. This mountain is 3,905 m high and is characterised by its three striking chines (north, south and east). It is completely situated in the province of South Tyrol.

Other major peaks are the Monte Cevedale, the Monte Zebrù, Palon della Mare and Monte Vioz.
