Caldes

Caldes

The municipality of Caldes with its localities Samoclevo, S. Giacomo, Cassana, Tozzaga, Bordiana and Bozzana are located in the lower part of the Val di Sole valley.

Caldes is above all agrarian-oriented and surrounded by plenty of apple and fruit orchards (area of cultivation of the Melinda apples). With some 1,000 inhabitants, the municipality is located at the entrance of the Val di Sole valley at 700 m asl.

In the east of the village, there are the historical walls of Castle Caldes, a legendary castle dating back to the year 1230 AD. In the course of centuries, this castle has repeatedly been altered and recently it has been restored.

Particularly characteristic are the localities of Caldes. At Samoclevo e.g. is situated a remarkable place of interest: the ruin at the foot of Monte Vesa. On about 1,000 m above sea level this ruin dominates the valley.
