In Fondo in the Val di Non valley is the Rio Sass Canyon, through which a path leads that winds between rocks over impressive suspension bridges

The path to the Rio Sass Canyon, accessible since 2001, starts in the village of Fondo and leads deep into the gorges of the canyon. The route leads over suspension bridges and iron stairs high above the Rio Sass river, which later, together with the Novella stream, flows into the artificial S. Giustina lake.
Along this fascinating route, untouched nature can be admired in all its beauty. Impressive rock faces, gorges, underground passages and waterfalls are as present as stalagmites, stalactites and lush vegetation. This ranges from dense forests to moss and greenish and reddish algae that have formed on the rocks due to the lack of light. Since 2009, the destination of the canyon has been "Bagni di Fondo", originally a thermal spa that is no longer used. From here, you can return to the starting point by taking the way there.
The path can only be walked accompanied by a guide. You can expect a walking time of about 2.5 hours, 1,200 steps and an altitude difference of 145 metres. Some parts are exposed and very narrow. Helmets are supplied.

Guided tours are available every day (including public holidays), booking by phone in advance at the Cooperativa Smeraldo in Fondo is required.

- We recommend to bring a waterproof jacket, suitable footwear such as hiking boots and comfortable, warm clothing, as the temperature drops considerably in some places.
- The route is suitable for everyone, but it is not recommended for children under the age of three (who may be carried in a baby carrier), people with heart disease and those who suffer from vertigo and claustrophobia.
