Drena is situated only 15 km from Riva del Garda and looks down on the Sarca valley. This locality originated prehistoric settlements and has been influenced by the Roman and Mediaeval period. The Mediaeval Drena castle towers on a tor above the Sarca valley. From this castle, which for a long period of time has been in possession of the Counts of Arco, the Sarca valley has been observed.
Drena is situated on the so called “Marocche”, a huge post-glacial rockslide. Today on this territory, various paths of cultural interest snake its way. These paths are not only perfect for hikers and walkers, but also for mountainbikers.
Furthermore the village is rich in religious sites, as for instance the San Martino Parish Church and the Carlo Borromeo church.
By the way: Drena is popular for its “Marroni di Drena”, the chestnuts which grow on millenial chestnut trees in the forests of Drena. Don’t forget to try!
