Bezzecca

The village of Bezzecca is placed in the central part of the Ledro Valley, near the crossroad to Concei

The village of Bezzecca is divided into two parts by the Assat river. On the one side “Villa” is located, on the other side the district called “Lutta”. Here the history-charged battle between the troops of Garibaldi and Austrian troops took place in 1866. This is also the place where Garibaldi said his famous “Obbedisco” (I obay) to King Vittorio Emanuele II, who asked him to relinquish the Trentino. Also today names of roads and buildings remind of this historic event. Moreover, you can find a small Garibaldi Museum in Bezzecca.

The local church, dedicated to the Saints Stephen and Lawrence was enthroned on the Santo Stefano hill until 1860. In the 19th century the today's parish church was built at the Garibaldi Square, also dedicated to the Saints Stephen and Lawrence. The church houses a valuable artwork, done by the wood carver Lenzumo Isidoro Segalla who needed 10 years to finish it. These are choir stalls made from walnut wood, decorated with 23 wooden medallions with high relief which show scenes from the Old and New Testament.

Along the road towards Tiarno a little church from the 14. century is located, dedicated to the Saint Lucia “in pratis”. The precious frescoes in the inside were rediscovered in 1998.
