Hike to the Monte Casale

This little mountain tour leads us to the Rif. Don Zio Pisoni mountain hut on the panoramic mountain Monte Casale. The view stretches from the Dolomites until Lake Garda

It’s beginning of June and spring is at its best in the mountains, nature prepares for summer. The ideal time for a hike on the Monte Casale mountain, its alpine meadows are blossoming now. Starting point of the hike is the little parking space at the radio mast, accessible via the mountain road which proceeds up from the village of Comano. We follow the forest road uphill (or the shorter but steeper hiking path through the forest) and reach the junction at Le Quadre (1,450 m asl.) after about 1 hour. From here we follow the marker no. 411 towards Capanna Don Zio.

Soon we reach the wide alpine meadows which characterise the last section up to the summit. We pass the Don Zio Mountain Hut and reach the summit after a few minutes, where we can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view: from the Valle dei Laghi valley with the well-visible lakes of Toblino and Santa Massenza until the deep blue Lake Garda. Unfortunately some clouds float past again and again and block the view on the Brenta Dolomites and the other mountains. Nevertheless the gorgeous panoramic view which we could enjoy was really worth the hike. Also the alpine meadows full of orchids, globe flowers, peonies and myriads of herbs will stick in our memory. The descent is done along the same route.
